Although Steve Kerr initially defended Draymond Green in his postgame comments following Green’s ejection for grabbing Rudy Gobert by the neck, the Golden State Warriors coach walked back his statements on Thursday.

This adjustment in stance comes in response to the NBA’s decision to suspend Green for five games.

“He took it too far,” Kerr said ahead of the Warriors’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. “Draymond was wrong. He knows that. It’s a bad look, and the five games are deserved.”

The confrontation between the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves originated with Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels.

Rudy Gobert intervened to separate Thompson from McDaniels, prompting Draymond Green to grab Gobert in an effort to remove him from the situation involving Thompson.

“I don’t have a problem with [Green] trying to get Rudy off of Klay … but he’s got to let go,” Kerr said. “He hung on for six, seven seconds. It was a terrible visual for the league, for Draymond and for everybody.”
