Things quiet between the Canadiens and Cole Caufield
The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro: Stu Cowen on talks between the Montreal Canadiens and pending RFA forward Cole Caufield.

Matthew Ohayn: “Darren Dreger said it, said it earlier today or earlier this week, whatever it was, I can’t really keep track of time. Which is just, there’s no news. There’s really no news to be reported.
I don’t know. Is this a good thing or is it a bad thing or are they just taking a break and saying, ‘hey, we’ll talk again in two weeks, go enjoy some summer vacation or whatnot.’ I mean, I don’t know.
How do you have a read on this situation?”
Cowen: “Well the two sides obviously have different ideas of what they want. Whether the Canadiens want to lock him up long-term and Caufield doesn’t want or the other way around. There’s definitely a divide between what both sides want.”
Oilers hits on Kailer Yamamoto, Dylan Holloway, Nick Bjugstad, and Derek Ryan
Mark Spector of Sportsnet: The Edmonton Oilers, or any other team for that matter, wouldn’t qualify forward Kailer Yamamoto at $3.2 million.
He’s missed 55 games over the past three seasons while averaging 13 goals and 29 points while getting plenty of top-six playing time.
GM Ken Holland needs to clear some cap space this offseason and there will be cheaper options than Yamamoto.
The Oilers used Evander Kane, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Warren Foegele and either Klim Kostin/Mattias Janmark on the left wing. The need to move someone to the right side or by trade to create room for Dylan Holloway. He’s NHL-ready.
The Oilers should try to re-sign UFA Nick Bjugstad, and if they can get Derek Ryan to sign for a year or more at $1.25 million, they do that.
