Shane Wright’s Development Takes Center Stage

0

As soon as Shane Wright received OHL exceptional designation, he was projected to go first overall in the NHL draft. He dropped to fourth, though.

Wright’s season has sputtered rather profoundly since the rise of players like David Jiricek, Brad Lambert, and Lane Hutson, and it is obvious that the Kraken management doesn’t completely trust him.

Wright was sent to Coachella Valley of the AHL after the Kitchener Rangers as the first-seed in the OHL were upset and swept in their first-round matchup.

The intellect and skills of the fourth overall picks would be expected to be a significant boost as the CV Firebirds make a serious run for the Calder Cup.

However, Wright has now missed two games and will probably watch a third from the press box as a healthy scratch.

Wright was a brilliant player at the junior level, so it is perplexing why he continues to struggle in the professional leagues. It’s clearly a warning sign if he can’t play bottom-six center for an AHL team.
