By Adam Baskin: Ryan Garcia has surprisingly agreed to give WBA light welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero a fight after he begged him.
Rolly, 27, has been begging Ryan nonstop for a fight ever since he beat 40-year-old Ismael Barroso by a controversial ninth round knockout win earlier this month on May 13th.
Instead of doing the right thing by giving Barroso a well-deserved rematch to clear up the controversy, Rolly has repeatedly called out Ryan for a fight.
Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) posted on Twitter, telling the newly crowned Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs), “You asked for it.” While some might view this as a strange move on Ryan’s part to face Rolly, it’s actually predictable.
Ryan obviously knows that Rolly is the weakest link among the champions at 140 and the only guy that he has a chance of beating. This move does entail risk on Ryan’s part because if he loses to a fighter like Rolly, he can’t blame the defeat on him fighting one of the best guys.
If Ryan were to fight the champions Regis Prograis, Subriel Matias, or Josh Taylor, he’d likely get knocked out again and be on skidrow.
Okay rollies you asked for it
Let’s get it 🥊🥊
This one is for barroso

Ryan is going to look bad just by taking a fight with Rolly because he’s viewed as a paper champion among the fan and not one of the best fighters.
