History will have to wait.

Caitlin Clark finished eight points shy of Kelsey Plum’s all-time scoring record, as her No. 2 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes were upset by Nebraska, 82-79.

Clark scored 31 points but the Cornhuskers kept the All-American guard scoreless in the fourth quarter, as they rallied from a 14-point deficit.

“We didn’t shut her down,” Nebraska head coach Amy Williams said. “But we’ll take it if we can get the win.”

With 30 seconds remaining, Jaz Shelley hit a 3-pointer to give Nebraska its first lead of the game. She finished with 23 points — and mocked Clark’s John Cena “You Can’t See Me” celebration.

Clark now sits at 3,520 career points and should likely become the new record-holder Thursday night when Iowa hosts Michigan. However, Clark said becoming the women’s Division I all-time leading scorer isn’t her main focus.

“I think it’s just about getting better and getting back home, playing in front of our fans and executing the way we know we can execute, I think, is very important for this team,” Clark said. “Obviously it will be special, but I think the biggest focus right now is just finding ways to grow, finding ways to be better.”

The Hawkeyes fell to 22-3, and are second in the Big Ten behind No. 5 Ohio State. Clark leads the nation in scoring at 32.2 points per game.
