Tommy DeVito will once again start at QB for the New York Giants, according to head coach Brian Daboll. Despite Tyrod Taylor close to returning from a rib injury, the undrafted rookie will once again be under center when Big Blue takes on the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football

“I just thought Tommy earned it,” Daboll said of DeVito, who won two of his past three starts. “Went back, watched all the tape, thought he played two good games. Obviously there are things we can all work on. Thought he earned the right to play.”

DeVito’s star has risen after becoming QB1. He’s thrown for 697 yards and seven TDs, and gained the respect and support of his teammates. Running back Saquon Barkley dubbed the Don Bosco Prep grad “Tommy Cutlets” and yells “Jersey” in support of the Cedar Grove, N.J., resident, who still lives at home with his parents.

Giants players and fans alike have joined in on DeVito’s “finger purse” celebration, which is a nod to his Italian heritage. And hundreds turned out for a November autograph signing at Primo Hoagies in Wayne, NJ.

“I think Tommy has done a good job,” Daboll said. “He’s improved in each of the games he’s played. I thought he played well the last two games. Made good decisions, was accurate with the football and earned the right to play.”

DeVito earned his first home win when the Giants defeated the Patriots for the first time in 36 years in NJ. The QB, 25, is no stranger to MetLife, having won a state title there while starring for the Ironmen.
