Mariners beat Rays, end 3-game slide

George Kirby took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and J.P. Crawford went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Tampa Bay Rays 8-3 on Saturday to snap a three-game losing streak

Luke Raley went deep for the Rays, whose three-game winning streak came to an end

Kirby (7-7) allowed two runs on two hits in seven innings. The right-hander issued a season-high two walks and struck out seven. Paul Sewald earned his 15th save.

The closest the Rays came to a hit in the first five innings came on Randy Arozarena’s drive to left-center field with two outs in the first. Jarred Kelenic made a leaping catch before running into the wall

The Rays‘ Yandy Diaz grounded a double just inside the third base bag with one out in the sixth for Tampa Bay’s first hit. An out later, Raley went deep to right to tie the score at 2-2

The Mariners regained the lead in the bottom of the inning against Tyler Glasnow (2-2). With one out, Teoscar Hernandez lined a double to right field. Following a strikeout and hit batsman, Kelenic grounded a single to left to drive in Hernandez and make it 3-2

Seattle tacked on three runs in the seventh. Crawford led off with a walk against reliever Jalen Beeks, and Julio Rodriguez and Ty France each singled to load the bases. Hernandez hit a ground-rule double to right center to plate a pair, and Eugenio Suarez later added a sacrifice fly.

Both teams scored in the eighth. Wander Franco singled to drive in a run in the top of the inning before Crawford and Rodriguez had run-scoring singles in the bottom half.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the second. With two outs, Kelenic doubled to center field, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Mike Ford’s line-drive single to center

Crawford led off the bottom of the third by lining a homer just over the right field wall.

Glasnow allowed three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out 11.
