West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer has joined Monaco on loan until the end of the season, and first-team coach Billy McKinlay has claimed it is a good move for the man.
Monaco have been unconvincing defensively, and the Principality club are therefore understandably looking to strengthen in the January transfer window, and they have been keen on signing Kehrer.
Kehrer has told WEST HAM he wants to leave after playing just 19 Premier League minutes this season.
The versatile German defender, 27, is in his second season at the London Stadium following his £10million arrival from PSG in the summer of 2022, but jumped at the chance to make the move back to Ligue 1 football.
He made 38 appearances for the Hammers last term as he helped them to Europa Conference League glory, but has found himself behind first-choice defensive pairing Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna this season.
And after seeing the move happen – first team coach McKinlay has opened up and claimed that it is a very good move for the German to make after not getting the minutes he wanted or desired.
West Ham first-team coach Billy McKinlay said: “Thilo Kehrer had a good 18 months with us and was a significant part of our squad.
“This year, he has maybe not played as much as he would have liked, but moving to Monaco on loan is a good chance for him to get some minutes.

He has asked for a move – Monaco were keen to get a deal done and WEST HAM were keen to let him leave – so this is a great move for the man and will give him the chance to reignite his career a bit.
And maybe the move will turn into a more permanent one at the end of the season.
