He has been a player that the last couple of bosses at the Emirates can really rely on – but with the club signing a number of players – the decision was made for him to leave the club.

Xhaka won two FA Cup titles and helped Mikel Arteta’s men finish second in the Premier League behind Manchester City last season.

The Switzerland central midfielder has agreed a five-year contract, the day before the English club hope to finalise a club-record £105m deal for Declan Rice.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID –

Sporting Director Edu said: “Granit has been a big part of our club for a long time. He has given us great commitment and quality over the years, playing such an important role in our progression and success.

‘He leaves us with our huge respect and thanks. We wish Granit all the best for the future.”

Mikel Arteta added: “We are saying goodbye to a fantastic player and person loved by all of us. It has been an incredible journey together for him and he has given absolutely everything for this club.

‘The influence Granit has had on his team mates on the pitch and colleagues at the club, will tell you just how popular he is.

“We cannot thank Granit enough for his service and contribution to this club over the years. We wish Granit and his family all the best in the next step of their lives.”

The club statement said: ‘Everyone at ARSENAL thanks Granit for his contribution during his seven years with us and wish him and his family the best of health and happiness in the future.’

Nelson happy with deal –

However – it was revealed this week that Nelson has now agreed to stay at the club – and it is a deal that he is very happy about.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID –

“I’m kind of lost for words If I’m honest,”

“I’ve been here since I was eight, I’m 23 now. It’s been a hell of a journey, and I’m just so happy. My family are ARSENAL supporters, so that makes it even happier.

‘I’m just really happy and I can’t wait to get started for the new season.”

“It’s just the way we played last season. I’ve been here for many years, I’ve been here the good years and bad years, and last year especially, I’ve seen the rise that Arsenal have taken.

‘Taking them to new heights and I feel like I want to be part of the journey.

“I want to be part of us going to the next level, which I think the boss, Edu, the backroom staff and the new players and the current players are making.

‘So it was a train I really didn’t want to miss and I want to be here for it, so I’m glad that I made the right decision.

“[Mikel Arteta] told me he’s seen a massive change in me and he feels like I’m at the next level and it feels like there’s so many more different levels that I can go to.

“So that was the conversation I had with him. And for me, I want to prove to him, prove to everyone around, how many levels I can actually go to and that’s what we spoke about.”

ARSENAL posted: ‘Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Josh on signing his first professional contract and we look forward to seeing his continued development.’

WHAT HAS ROBINSON SAID –

He revealed: “I’m very happy to reach this milestone. I feel like I’ve worked a lot and I’ve kind of deserved it and I’m just hungry for more.
