ARSENAL may hatch a “smart” plan to replace the injured Jurrien Timber before deadline day, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 22-year-old only arrived in north London this summer, joining in a £40million deal from Ajax, but he is set to be out of action for quite some time.

The defender was making his English topflight debut for the Gunners but lasted little more than half the game when he picked up a knee issue early in the second half.

It has been suggested that he will be out of action for quite some time – meaning that Mikel Arteta will not have the squad of players he had hope for in the early stages of the season.

And if you believe the words of Romano – Arsenal may now look into the possibility of replacing Timber in the last few days of the transfer window.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID – 

He said: “They’re [Arsenal] discussing about this [replacing Timber] internally.

“Arsenal are continuing this week to discuss, together with Mikel Arteta, to decide whether they want to sign a player on the market.

“This is not decided yet but they also have to decide if they want to sign a new centre-back or full-back. We know Timber was covering both positions so they have to decide what kind of player could be the right one.

“I think Arsenal will only act if they find a good opportunity. I don’t see them spending crazy money. I think they could do something smart as they always do on the market.”

ARSENAL have shown this summer that if they want a player – they will get one. And if they are keen to sign another defender – we are sure they would be interested in a move to the Emirates.

If Timber is out for a while, then a replacement should be signed as he will not be fully fit for months.
