The US Open begins on August 28th.

The elbow injury has limited Carreno Busta to four matches this season. Carreno Busta’s departure is not surprising given he wasn’t able to defend his National Bank Open title in Toronto last week.

The 32-year-old Spaniard has not played since bowing to Richard Gasquet in his Rotterdam opener last February.

Three years ago, Carreno Busta was on the court when Novak Djokovic accidentally struck a lineswoman in the throat with a ball and was disqualified from the US Open. Carreno Busta went on to reach the Flushing Meadows semifinals. Last year, Carreno Busta advanced to the US Open round of 16 falling to Karen Khachanov in five sets.

Carreno Busta joins Nick Kyrgios and Jan-Lennard Struff, who pulled out last week, withdrawing from the Flushing Meadows major, which starts on August 28th.

Radu Albot (MDA) moves into the main draw with Carreno Busta’s departure.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo (ARG) is now the first player out.
